Dr. Rebecca Uhlig

Dr. Rebecca Uhlig is our in-house expert on eye diseases. After earning her Doctorate in Optometry from Ohio State University, Dr. Uhlig concentrated on detection and treatment of eye disease through post-graduate training in referral-only specialty clinics. Her extensive experience in treating glaucoma, retinal disease, dry eyes, and diabetic retinopathy has allowed Hawthorne Vision Center to take our eye health care to a higher level. Unlike many optometrists with a medical-model education, Dr. Uhlig realizes that developing a good patient-doctor relationship is essential to providing good care. Her friendly manner encourages patients to discuss their concerns and visual needs. As a newcomer to Oregon, Dr. Uhlig appreciates hearing about special events and places in Oregon to visit. She and her husband enjoy buzzing around on their motorcycle interspersed with quiet time at home with the cats. Dr Uhlig is currently accepting new patients.

Dr. Alan Love

Dr. Love's specialties include pediatrics, vision related learning disorders, and maximizing binocular vision. His relaxed attitude and quick wit put all his patients, young and not so young, at ease. Dr. Love comes to us from northern California, but spent some time on the East Coast earning his optometry degree at the New England College of Optometry in Boston, MA. His interest in the visual issues that affect children led him to additional training with a pediatrics and vision therapy residency program at Pacific University. Dr. Love hopes to earn status as a native Oregonian by volunteering at vision screenings with the Special Olympics of Oregon and participating in Lions Club events throughout the state. In addition, he enjoys providing free eye care on several trips to low-income areas of Mexico. And yes, that's his real name! Dr. Love is also an avid bicycle commuter. If you come to your appointment by bike, feel free to lock it up to Dr. Love's bike parked in the back lot of the office, under the covered lot around the corner on 48th, or in the bike lot across the street at Por que No. Dr. Love is currently accepting new patients and is available for Saturday appointments.

Dr. Julie Demaree

As of September 2010, Dr. Demaree is fully retired and no longer seeing patients at Hawthorne Vision Center. Dr. Demaree wants everyone to know she's enjoying the good life with plans for extended sailing trips to exotic locales. She has promised to keep us updated on her future travels and send us pictures of her adventures.

	Dr. Zuzana Friberg Dr. Friberg graduated from UCLA with a B.S. in Physiological Science. After receiving her Doctorate in Optometry from Southern California College of Optometry with Cum Laude and Honors, Dr. Friberg completed an additional year of post-doctoral residency in Salt Lake City, Utah. The mixed clinical environment of her residency allowed her to manage and treat many eye diseases and fit specialty medical contact lenses. As a proud Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, Dr. Friberg is dedicated to the highest standard of optometric practice and desires to provide the most attentive and comprehensive care to her patients. Native to a small EU country in the heart of Europe - Slovakia, Dr. Friberg loves the urban feel and accessibility to everything Portland has to offer. As a recent transplant to Oregon, Dr. Friberg and her husband enjoy meeting new people, walking through Portland's many eclectic neighborhoods, hiking in Washington and Forest Park and exploring new areas around the city. Both also like photography, traveling around the world, skiiing, mountain biking, visiting galleries, and of course spending time with each other. You can also find Dr Friberg at Uptown Eyecare and Optical. As of September 2010, Dr Friberg is on maternity leave until further notice.
	Amanda Hello, my name is Amanda. I am the front desk specialist. I have been in optometry for 7 years. I've been a patient at Hawthorne Vision Center all my life and my little boy follows in my footsteps. I am the first person you see when you walk through our doors and probably the first to greet you on the phone. I am the "go to" for any questions you may have regarding your insurance coverage. I am also cross-trained in billing and optometric technician skills. Ask me anything: I'll find the answer for you.
	Andrea Hello, I'm Andrea. I am an Optometric Technician. I have been in optometry for 3 years and I love working with people. I make sure the doctor has everything they need to give you a thorough and professional eye exam. I am fluent in Spanish and English. My goal is to make sure all my patients have a great exam experience!
	Anna Hello, my name is Anna. I am the Office Manager. I'm ABO certified and have been in the optometry field since 1997. I'm here to facilitate your experience at Hawthorne Vision Center. 	Jane Hello, I'm Jane. I'm the optical manager. I am ABO Certified and have been in optometry since 1998 with varying experience throughout the field. I am happiest working in optical fashion and helping people find the right frame. Whether you know what you're looking for or not, I can help you find your next favorite pair of glasses.
	Mateo Hello, my name is Mateo. I am an Optical Journeyman and ABO Certified. I have been in optometry for 31 years. I am fluent in Spanish and English. I take pride in cutting and edging lenses to fit every patient individually. I want to make sure that patients are completely satisfied with their glasses. My experience working in an optical laboratory gives me the expertise to generate the highest quality products for each patient. If you need help choosing a great pair of frames and the perfect lenses, I'm here to help!
	Vicki Hello, I'm Vicki. I am an Optometric Technician and have been in optometry for 6 years. I am the person who begins your eye exam. I enjoy interacting with patients and getting to know each and every one of them. The staff and doctors here are wonderful to work with and I hope to enjoy working here for many years to come.
